International Action Plans

The International Single Species Action Plan for the Conservation of the Lesser White-fronted Goose (Western Palearctic Population) was adopted at the 4th Meeting of the AEWA Parties in Madagascar in September 2008. The goal of the action plan is to restore the Lesser White-fronted Goose to a favorable conservation status within the AEWA Agreement area by stopping and reversing the current population decline and range contraction. The main focus under the Action Plan is the conservation of the wild Fennoscandian and Western main sub-populations with the aim to restore the Fennoscandian sub-population to 1000 individuals and the Western main sub-population to 20.000 individuals.

An Action plan for the Conservation of migratory Anatidae in the East Asian flyway: 2001-2005» was prepared by the Anatidae Working Group, Asia-Pacific Migratory Waterbird Conservation Committee.



National Action Plans

Of the 22 AEWA principle range states for the Lesser White-fronted Goose five countries have adopted national action plans to date:

  • Hungarian National Action Plan for the Lesser White-fronted Goose available in Hungarian and English, published in 2014 and 2017 respectively
  • Estonian National Action Plan for the Lesser White-fronted Goose available in Estonian and English, published in 2012
  • Finnish National Action Plan for the Lesser White-fronted Goose available in Finnish with English summary, published in 2009
  • Norwegian National Action Plan for the Lesser White-fronted Goose available in English, published in 2011
  • Swedish National Action Plan for the Lesser White-fronted Goose. This deals with the restocked/reintroduced population. The NAP can be found at the Translocation page.
