Portal to the Lesser White-fronted Goose

Colour rings

Since 1995 a number of Lesser White-fronted Geese from the wild populations have been caught. These have been equipped with various combinations of conventional number rings, colour rings, neckbands and satellite radio transmitters. Regular recoveries should be reported to the ringing central that is written on the ring, but observations of colour ringed Lesser White-fronted Geese should be reported to either Tomas Aarvak or Bo Fagerström (see below).

NOTE: Lesser White-fronted Geese having colour rings on both feet belong to the reintroduced population, while all wild caught Lessers have colour rings on only one leg and a metal ring on the other. Are you unsure, then contact Tomas Aarvak and we will give you the proper contact address. Some Lesser White-fronted Geese have also got RED, GREEN, BLACK or YELLOW neck collars in Russia. These should be reported to the Russian Ringing Central (address below). Some Lesser White-fronted geese got BLUE neck bands in Finland in 1990s. These recoveries should be reported to Petteri Tolvanen.
