Observations in 2004
27 November 2004, Hortobágy , Hungary 2 LWfG was observed in Öreg-tó, Komárom-Esztergom. (Source: J.Tar) 26 August 2004, Valdak Marshes, Porsangen Fjord, Norway 27 LWfG are staging at the Valdak Marshes. (Source: T.Aarvak & I.J.Øien). 25 August 2004, Valdak Marshes, Porsangen Fjord, Norway by today 17 LWfG are staging at the Valdak Marshes. These are 6 young and 11 adults. It seems to have been a poor breeding year for lessers in northern Norway (Source: T.Aarvak & I.J.Øien). 21 May 2004, Valdak Marshes, Porsangen Fjord, Norway by today (which is rainy - a rare spring event at these latitudes) 31 different LWfG have been identified. Of these are quite many young birds (2cy), and four birds have colour leg rings (ringed at this site in earlier years) (Source: T.Aarvak & I.J.Øien). 14 May 2004, Valdak Marshes, Porsangen Fjord, Norway 3 pairs and 8 single LWfG were observed in the afternoon. Most of the single birds were young (2cy). Among the adults was the Green-Black female (see also observations from spring 2003) (Source: T.Aarvak & I.J.Øien). 10 May 2004, Valdak Marshes, Porsangen Fjord, Norway One adult pair and two second calendar year LWfG were first seen in the evening on 7 May. These were still present on 10 May. The adult pair is the same as the first adult pair that arrived at this staging site in spring 2003. Mika Bruun (source: www.tarsiger.com) 5 January 2004, Evros Delta, Greece During the first days of January 2004, 52 Lesser White-fronted Geese including one with a colour ring (marked at Valdak in 2002) were observed in the saltmarshes surrounding the Drana Lagoon in the Evros Delta, Greece. The observation was done through a survey of wintering LWfG which is supported by the LIFE Nature program “Restoration and Conservation Management of Drana Lagoon in the Evros Delta”.
