Observations in 2003
22 September, Hortobagy, Hungary 39 LWfG were observed in the Fishponds. Four were colour ringed (ringed at Valdak, Norway).
31 August, Valdak, Norway 47 LWfG has been observed at the Valdak Marshes, comprising seven broods with a total of 27 goslings. Though few successful pairs the brood size is good.
22 August, northern Norway The autumn migration on LWfG have started. So far have 43 individuals been seen at Valdak, while seven birds have been seen at Skjåholmen.
22 May, Valdak, Norway Totally 30 Lesser White-fronted Geese have been seen so far at this staging locality. Of them were five individuals with colour rings. The most special one was the female Black-Green which has also been seen in Estonia this spring as well as on several localities in 2002 (see the 2002 observation page).

03 May, Haeska, Estonia Totally 15 Lesser White-fronted Geese have been seen in Estonia so far this spring season.
24 April, Haeska, Estonia Today another two LWfG pairs were seen in the Haeska coastal meadows in Estonia. One of the LWfG was carrying colour rings (Red-White on left leg).
23 April, Haeska, Estonia On 23 April two LWfG pairs were seen in the Haeska fields in Estonia. One of the LWfG was carrying colour rings (A green ring was seen).
Winter bird survey in the Lower Jian (Yangtze River) Basin, China A total of 16 600 Lesser White-fronted Geese were counted during a winter bird survey in a selection of lakes in Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi and Anhui over a 3-week period in January 2003. Those interested in spreadsheets of the counts, site-by-site (with dates/co-ordinates) and estimated coverage of each lake, should contact Mark Barter directly - as should those who would like to discuss the results in more detail.
